Endings and New Beginnings

If the recent spring weather in Iowa has taught us anything, it is how quickly things can change—sunshine one day, freezing air the next, and even a few snowflakes just when you thought winter was behind us. All of this shifting weather reminds us that life is full of transitions, some expected and others that catch us off guard. Yet through them all, God’s presence remains steady. As the prophet Isaiah says, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19). Even when the weather—and life—changes, we trust that God is at work, bringing renewal and growth in ways we may not yet see.

In this spirit of transitions, our congregation will soon mark both an ending and a new beginning. After many years of faithful service, our longtime parish administrator, Pam Fike, is retiring this month. Pam has been a constant source of care, wisdom, and organization in our church’s life, and I am so grateful for all she has given. At the same time, we are pleased to welcome Rhonda Schmidtke as our new Parish Administrator. Rhonda will officially begin on May 4, and will spend some time overlapping with Pam to help ensure a smooth transition.

Endings and new beginnings. We thank God for you, Pam. May your next chapter be filled with new joys and new life! And welcome, Rhonda – we look forward with hope to this next chapter with you!
